I am preparing to build a new firewall/mail server for my company on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4450e dual-core 2.3GHz machine and am wondering if I should go with Linux x86 64 or stick with the regular x86 install. I'd say it is, at least for server side, assuming we are talking about lunar here. Lunar still need some tweaking on x86_64 for desktop users but we're getting there. I've been runing x86_64 since the first release on a couple of servers, no issues. With this said 64-bit is not the solution to all problems though ;) -- Sincerely Stefan Wold Lunar Linux developer - PGP public key 6E810F05 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Now that amarok2 is out I went for amarok2 downloading the source manually and putting it in /var/spool/lunar When I tried to lin -w 2.0 amarok4 it found my predownloaded tarball and went on. After I resolved the missing dependency (mysql, taglib) I end up with the error "Did not find Automoc4Config.cmake (part of kdesupport)." automoc is in fact installed and the questioned file is in /opt/lunar/kde/4/lib/automoc4/ but cmake script searches in the wrong places. I don't know how to set the path for cmake proper so I just ln -s /opt/lunar/kde/4/lib /opt/lib The script checks /opt/lib for automoc4/ and can success. Compilation starts now just fine. I don't know who maintains amarok4 but I hope that this is helpfull for him/her. - -- Bernd "beko" Kosmahl beko (a-nospam-t) duke.famkos.net http://duke.famkos.net (PGP pupkey: http://duke.famkos.net/pub.txt) PGP Fingerprint: 0798 0D57 1F98 0675 731D AD06 81FB 7AD8 AD53 FE47 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAklBAxQACgkQgft62K1T/kdmNQCfV6skz0efBcQIPWfoPl+f/msg 1YwAn3Xk4iJIBUGr402nITs8USPnzKFJ =xvik -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From sofar at foo-projects.org Thu Dec 11 22:45:57 2008 From: sofar at foo-projects.org (Kok, Auke) Date: Thu, 11 Dec 2008 13:45:57 -0800 Subject: 64 bit ready for prime-time? With this said 64-bit is not the > solution to all problems though ;) ditto. no problems running your typical server apps whatsoever. please note however that many power-savings features are absent on x86_64, so if power consumption is your bitch (which I suspect it isn't, considering you probably bought a typical anti-entropy device), you might prefer to stick to i686/32-bit. So personally, for mostly-idle servers I would really prefer 32-bit kernels. After almost two years since the last stable release it's finally here, Lunar Linux 1.6.4. We've reached a new milestone, 1.6.4 is our most polished release to date. Our hope is that everyone will enjoy it as much as we've done making it. The effort of improving our installer and iso will of course continue. Stay tuned next year for some exciting new features that are in store for Lunar! We would like to wish everyone a happy new year! - The Lunar team New features in 1.6.4 * Working software raid configuration * Improved language selection * Installation from a USB stick or other media * Ships with kernel 2.6.27.10! * ReiserFS, XFS and JFS are now also built-in with the precompiled kernels Summary of changes since 1.6.4-beta1: * Isolinux updated * All modules refreshed * Kernel bumped to 2.6.27.10 * Installer will now skip the 'swap file' step if a swap partition was added * USB modems in the precompiled kernel have been disabled since they require firmware images that we don't supply * Added lsb-release Download here: http://lunar-linux.org/index.php/en/downloads.html -- Sincerely Stefan Wold Lunar Linux developer - PGP public key 6E810F05 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
